Not to be confused with Rock and Roll, Jive is one of the five international Latin dances, originating in the USA in the 1930s
Jive was influenced by the Boogie, Rock & Roll, African/American Swing and Lindyhop and came to Europe in around 1942 when American soldiers brought these dances across the channel. The basic look and feel conveys bags of life and energy involving lots of kicks and flicks, twirling of the woman although it doesn't move around the dance floor like other dances. Music is very upbeat including Boogie-woogie, Swing and Rock and Roll.
English instructors developed the Jive, danced to slightly slower music and in 1968 it was adopted as the fifth Latin dance in International competitions.
The Rock Bottoms crew host our Jive holidays specialising in Modern Jive, Lindy Hop, Tango and West Coast Swing. With dancing every night (way into the early hours), you'll spring into life the next day for their first class workshops brought to you by top UK and international teachers.
Absolutely brilliant, we had the most fun on the dance floor in a long time. As experienced dancers - this was the perfect break, a pleasure from beginning to end!
